The Independent Billiard League of Houston (IBL), Inc. is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(7) non-profit organization. The league was established in 1995 as a sports entity whose primary objective was serving billiard enthusiasts within the Greater Houston gay community. However, our league does not discriminate on any basis and membership is open to anyone who enjoys playing pool in an atmosphere of friendly competition.
During the regular playing season league play takes place on Thursday evenings at various local sponsor establishments. The league consists of three-person teams, with each player playing a total of three games. Various tournaments are also held during each playing season. Individual and team awards are given at the awards banquet at the conclusion of each season. Also at the banquet cash awards are also given to member-determined league charities.
The IBL normally schedules two playing seasons annually, with one season running spring through mid-summer, and a second season usually beginning in Septmber and running through January. The league is fully funded by player and team dues. Each playing member is charged a nominal league fee at the beginning of each season. Sponsor dues are also payable to the league by each team sponsor.
The IBL mission is to provide everyone who wishes to join an opportunity to play pool among friends in a relaxed, non-professional, and accepting environment. Players of all skill levels are welcome to participate.
As a sports organization the IBL operates under the guidance of a member elected board of trustees whose duties and responsibilities are outlined in league By-Laws. All members are expected to follow established rules, policies, and procedures as adopted by the league membership. The IBL enjoys a long, well-established history in our community and has operated continuously since it's inception in 1995. Come join us for some Thursday Night Fun...the only game in town!
